Rowing News

Stuartholme sent a team of 46 girls up to Bundaberg at the beginning of the September holidays to row at the Queensland School State Championships.

Just under 800 of the best schoolgirl and schoolboy rowers came from all over the State to participate in the championship regatta.

I am very happy to report that the girls had some fantastic success, taking home nine medals – 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze. Congratulations to the girls on these fantastic results. You can find the blog with all results and photos here: http://sturow.weebly.com/

Special mentions to our Year 9 1st Quad and Year 10 1st Four, who both claimed the Gold Medal at the Championships, as well as our Met-West teams fantastic Silver medals.

The Year 9s won the Year 9 Quad Scull which means these girls are; BSRA Indoor, BSRA Head of the River, South Queensland and now Queensland State Champions, with two of these girls also rowing U16 Met-West – there is no bigger prize at their age! They also claimed Gold & Bronze in the Year 9 Double Scull Final to top it off.

Well done to Issy Mailli, Emma Tucker, Sophia Tully, Zara Wareham and Kyla O’Shanassy.

The Year 10s combined into the Four for the very first time, which is one sweep oar each rather than their normal two sculling oars. The girls won the Gold medal in spectacular fashion rowing out to a couple of boat lengths lead over their competition.

The U16 Met-West crew, made up entirely of Stuartholme girls, rowed into a fantastic 2nd place against the best combined crews from around the State. The U19 Met-West crew, with two Stuartholme girls, rowed through Met-North in the final stroke of the race to claim the Silver. Both races were absolutely fantastic!

Well done to Emma Tucker, Sophia Tully, Sophie Marriott, Genevieve James, Grace Gaston, Jessie Macqueen and Lucy Theodore.
