News from the Nest
I can’t believe we are into Week 4 already with 6 weeks to go! The girls have been magnificent in the heat, perhaps complaining to you but not to us very often! We slept all 7s and 8s and any girls who wanted to in air-conditioned classrooms on Monday night which the girls appreciated!
A highlight this fortnight was our first themed Family Dinner with a Valentine’s Day Theme. Ask your daughter whether she enjoyed this night! We enjoyed salmon or stuffed chicken, roast beetroot salad and a chocolate fountain – bliss! Thanks to Shane and his crew for their enthusiasm and decorative touches. Meanwhile, our Boarding Captains attended the first Captains’ Dinner at Somerville House and the remaining Mentors (Macey Fegan, Lucy Frecklington and Lizzie Ostwald) most ably led our House Meeting and judged the Valentine Dress Up Competition.
Our new students have settled in incredibly well. I met all new Year 9-11 boarders this week and asked them to rate their boarding experience so far. Not one girl had a result lower than 8/10! Many girls commented on the other students’ friendliness and the kindness and care of the Supervisors. Our food also got a thumbs up! It is my job to facilitate the relationship between boarding and the day school and I explained to the girls that we can help get things fixed up in the day school that might not be working so well for them. Everything can be talked through and support networks put into place.
We are taking a more vigilant approach to clean and tidy rooms in the mornings as well as laundry each night or morning. I expect each girl to make her bed every day, pull back her curtain, empty her laundry basket and be generally tidy. If girls do not do this, they will receive a warning the first time and then we will confiscate their phone for 24 hours. If you can support us in this, I would be most appreciative.
Stuartholme is hosting an Australian Boarding Schools’ Association lunch next Wednesday 22 February for all Girls’ Boarding Schools in Queensland. This is a chance to network and share best practice about girls’ boarding. We will highlight the way our Boarding Leadership Team works together, our International Students’ Program, our Year 7 Orientation Program and also the way we connect the day school and boarding.
Recreation this weekend includes Mini-Golf at Victoria Park on Friday night ($13), Trivia Night at Marist on Saturday Night (compulsory for Years 7-9) and a Splash Battle at School on Sunday from 3-4 pm (free). Click here to view the Term 1 Recreation Calendar.
Mass will be on at 5pm in the 1st Floor classrooms because of the heat. You are always welcome to be part of our Masses.
I hope you have received some rain if you are out West or in the country somewhere! I wish your families a great weekend and remind you to please stay in touch.
REACH is now working so can all leave requests come in via REACH by 12.30 pm on Thursdays. Contact Ellen McLean on firstname.lastname@example.org if you are experiencing any difficulties with REACH. Can I please emphasise that it is very hard for us to keep track of leave if it is not in via REACH. Thanks so much for supporting us in this.
