Music Day and Mexican Dinner

On Friday, 21 July, music students in Choir, Band and String ensembles undertook a full day of rehearsals to prepare for the upcoming Queensland Catholic Schools’ and Colleges’ Music Festival – QCMF.

The students were supported by the ensemble conductors and music tutors to rehearse their numbers, breaking into small groups for focussed rehearsal and also undertook ‘team building’ exercises outside.

Special thanks to the music staff who supported and encouraged the girls on the day:

Andrew Mear – Director of Music – conductor for Concert Band and Joigny Voices

Zac Moynihan (percussion); Miranda Sue Yek (clarinet and saxophone) and Janet McKay (flute)

Marina Grinham and Evelyn Legried – String Conductors

Elspeth Sutherland and Barbara Tate – Voice tutors who assisted with the choirs

Melanie Stewart – Conductor of Year 7 Choir

Kathy Sander – Accompanist to the choirs

The Student Music Committee also worked hard to encourage the students, organise games and kept the ‘team spirit’ alive for the day!

At the end of a very busy day, 96 students and 9 staff piled onto a bus to head to Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant at Newmarket for a Mexican dinner in celebration of their hard work for the day.

A fabulous time was had by all!

Good luck to the ensembles performing in QCMF – we know you will do us proud!
