Message from the Principal
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends,
Welcome to our 2017 School Year.
While many students and teachers were enjoying their Christmas holidays, Stuartholme was industriously working away on finalising our building project, undertaking Antipodeans adventures and a Japanese trip and revamping our IT devices. The ‘filling in of the tunnel’ has created a wonderful Academic and Student Services Office where students will be able to access their teachers, our VET Coordinator, our Careers Counsellor, our Senior and Junior Studies Directors and our Deputy Principal Learning. Our front entry to the school has been enhanced with new signage and a refurbished roundabout.
In early December, Jarod Costantini, Birgit Holly, Sumire Toku and Karyn Richardson led two teams through China as part of the Antipodeans trip. A major component of the trip involved the students spending time in a village and building an amenities block for the locals. The group also experienced the culture and traditions of China by visiting temples, markets and undertaking a trek through some of China’s most beautiful areas.
Over two weeks in December, nine of our Japanese students along with Ben Webb and Tricia Denton, also had a cultural experience, visiting Takarazuka and one of our sister schools. Here the girls stayed with host families, who opened their homes and their hearts to our students.
We have welcomed 14 new staff members; eight teachers, five boarding staff and one Counsellor/Psychologist:
• Fabrice Alleaume – French
• Timothy Butler – Science/IT
• Sue Harris – Leader of Student Wellbeing Year 8, HPE
• Mizuho Major – Japanese

At the conclusion of 2016, Daryl Hanly retired as Chair from our Stuartholme School Board and Rosemary Wood also finished her term on the Board. Two new Directors have been installed, Dr Stephen Brown and Diane Neve. Diane is a Stuartholme Alumna, and past parent. Mark O’Hare, who has Chaired our Finance and Facilities Committee, will be our Board Chair for 2017. Our congratulations to Daryl who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to secondary education on Australia Day.
We are enormously proud of our Graduates of Year 12, 2016. Their results have been the best we have had since 2000. Stuartholme achieved outstanding results which rank us among the top Catholic girls schools in Queensland.
Our Class of 2016 achieved:
• 37% OP eligible students 1-5
• 76% OP eligible students 1-10
• 99% OP eligible students 1-15
• 46% of students completed a Certificate III
• 16% of students completed Certificate IV
• 99% of our students have received a tertiary offer in the first round of offers.
In my first year at Stuartholme School, 2016, I respectfully observed and learned about the strong sense of community and the rich traditions of our Sacred Heart ethos. In 2017, we plan to undertake a comprehensive Strategic Plan. Term 1 we will be collecting data from a diverse range of sources. However, most importantly, we will be asking parents, students and teachers what they think are the strengths of Stuartholme School and what areas are in need of improvement. I encourage parents to engage with this process to ensure we work together on identifying a clear direction as we move forward together in a proactive and purposeful manner.
Kind regards and God bless,
