Year 11 Mathematics B Trial External Examination

Our Department is very pleased with the performance of our Year 11 Mathematics B students in the recent QCAA External trial examination. The girls were very calm on the day and generally prepared thoroughly for this assessment piece.

Summary statistics shown below in KAP [Knowledge and Procedures] showed that we performed very favourably against the state, as expected.

  Stuartholme State
Cumulative percentage of  students receiving an  A, B or C in Knowledge and Procedures 89.7% 65.7%

Distribution of Grades

Thanks to the Year 11B teachers [Ms Hopkins, Ms Murtagh and Mrs Devlin] for their teaching and support of the girls in the preparation for this test.

The data analysis and general administration of this exam has been invaluable for Stuartholme as we prepare for External Examinations becoming part of a student’s assessment folio in 2018.

About the ICAS Test

Students in our Year 8 Enrichment class will be sitting the ICAS [International Competitions and Assessments for Schools] Mathematics paper on Tuesday 16 August in their normal mathematics lesson. The test consists of 35 Multiple-Choice questions and 5 Free-Response questions and students are given one hour to complete the items. Thanks to Ms Murtagh for guiding the Year 8 girls through trial questions as we prepare for this activity.

Selected Year 7 Mathematics students will also be invited to sit this highly respected educational assessment run by The University of New South Wales.
