Lions Youth of the Year

On Thursday 23 February, two Year 12 students represented Stuartholme at the Bardon Lion’s Youth of the Year Quest. Marina Bishop and Sarah Long were interviewed individually at school during the day by a panel of three judges who spoke to them about their contributions to the community and asked them a series of questions on current affairs. In the evening, the girls along with two students representing Kelvin Grove State College and two students representing St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace presented a 5-minute prepared speech as well as being asked to consider and answer two impromptu questions – “If you were Prime Minister for a day what would your first priority be?” and ”What does success mean for you?”
The evening session was held at the Lavalla Centre and the standard of speaking was outstanding. The judges in their summary commended all of the competitors. Both girls were very worthy representatives of Stuartholme. It was very exciting to hear that Sarah won the evening and will move through to the next level of the competition – we wish her the best of luck.

Thank you to Ms Sharpe and the Cor Unum Committee who joined me in supporting the girls.
