Heath Ryan comes to Stuartholme Equestrian

Heath Ryan, world renowned Equestrian competitor, came to Burpengary in the July holidays and conducted a very enlightening clinic on the Eventing discipline for members of the Stuartholme team.

Heath was assistant coach to the Australian Olympic 3 Day Team in Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 when the Team won Gold. He himself made his Olympic debut at the age of 50 at the 2008 Beijing Games. In 2009 he suffered stroke like conditions but in 2010 came back to the sport winning the Australian Dressage Grand Prix Champions in SIEC. He has been the Australian 3 Day Champion and the Grand Prix Dressage Champion 3 times. Riders come from across the world to be trained by Heath and Rozzie Ryan, also an Olympian, at Heatherbrae, their property in NSW.

The Stuartholme riders gained a very high level of understanding about all three parts to this intricate and demanding sport. They worked on what is required to get the most from the horse and rider partnership and how to develop a patient relationship. One girl commented that her horse progressed 3 dressage grades in just one lesson!

It was an invaluable experience for the girls and horses to have such an experienced and expert coach. We sincerely hope that we can have a similar couple of days again in 2018.

Thank you to Liz Owens for organising the clinic and to Mandy and Nick Ballard for hosting Heath during his visit.
